Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen is pleased to host ‘Art and Curating on the Seaming Lines’, a performative lecture by artist and curator Fadwa Naamna (Palestine, 1985) – participant De Appel curatorial programme 2016-2017.

This performative lecture by Fadwa Naamna is a time-machine journey, inspired by the historical past in Vijfhuizen area, as a physical barrier built for geographical disconnection and civilian defense. Geopolitics and the landscape are the starting point for investigating cultural production in the region of Palestine and Israel.

In Palestine, there is a lack of one uniting organizing cultural center, a fact that makes the artistic and cultural production basically dependent on independent initiatives and nonprofit organizations. The politically charged surrounding resembles a ticking-time bomb machine; hence artists and curators are obliged to navigate through a complicated site-specific vague etiquette.

This event is organized along-side the exhibition “Tamar Harpaz – March Madness”, on show untill 4 June at the Kunstfort.

About Fadwa Naamna

Fadwa Naamna (Palestine, 1985), is a curator and artist based in Haifa, she has been engaged in the seaming lines between the contemporary Palestinian and Israeli art scenes, with a focus on socio-political contents specifically of conflict zones. She has finished her studies in Arts and Geography at Haifa University and worked for a couple of years as an assistant curator in Beit Hagefen Arab-Jewish cultural center. Naamna is currently a participant at De Appel curatorial program in Amsterdam.
