The Chilean artist collective Border Agency specializes in exploring the limits of the notions of landscape and is formed by Sebastian Melo, Rosario Montero and Paula Salas. Their new book reveals the reflections that arose from the exhibition ‘Liquid Landscapes: what if the ground under your feet can’t be trusted?’ presented at the Kunstfort in 2019. Border Agency introduces their new book through a conversation with researcher Jeroen Boomgaard, photographer and artist Ola Lanko, researcher Ronald Rietveld from R.A.A.A.F and theorist and writer Theo Reeves-Evison, introduced by director Zippora Elders.

We invite you to inquire about the uncertainties arising from The Landmine Project, which investigated the border areas of the Atacama Desert converted into “weapon landscapes” after the planting of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines during the dictatorship between 1973 and 1983 and that due to various factors, remain dangerously hidden or lost in the sector until today. The questions about the impact of a landscape-weapon extends to other landscapes and temporalities, such as the Fort bij Vijfhuizen, which was part of a 19th cen­tury mil­i­tary strategy which trans­formed the land­scape into a weapon by using water as a de­fense line.
