Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia (Togo,1989) is currently participant at the post-academic institution De Ateliers in Amsterdam and works and stays on the Kunstfort peninsula.
“My installation at the Kunstfort is an extension of my studio work in Amsterdam, a part of a research I am doing on “connectivity of elements”. The space of the fort island gives me the opportunity to enlarge my studio work and to make an extension-connection with the natural environment. The project is called “Haunted Village”. It is a set of experiments with different materials linking space, land, water and other. I started the work by using ‘objets trouvés’ on the fort Island by combining them and adjusted ceramics, that I named “Sculpting the weight”, to have a constructive element, referring to the fort architecture. Each work must be seen as an individual piece, but at the same time forms a whole block in the space where visitors can walk through, experiencing the work in their own way.”
