BLOB (Binary Large Object)
2009
Return to overview

BLOB is short for Binary Large Object: an architectural concept. BLOBs are related to deconstructivist architecture, which uses new design opportunities to extend technical boundaries. Reknown examples are the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and Kunsthaus Gratz in Austria. Designer Jurgen Bey (Soest, 1965) made this mobile object for the BLOB pavilion of Eindhoven University of Technology. It was used as a presentation space and platform for experimental projects around art and technology, programmed in collaboration with Van Abbemuseum. Since 2009 the quirky BLOB is installed in the flat landscape of Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen.
