Collection Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen / Gift from Hans Oomen

Achtung is a work from the Hazard Marking System series by the Belgian artist Ives Maes (Hasselt, 1976). A Hazard Marking System is a set of universal recognizable warning signs, in this case for mines. The design is similar to the German chart that was used in the Second World War. In the surroundings of Fort bij Vijfhuizen, the sign looks like appears to be a historical remains because one expects that. But is actually not. The fort was indeed inhabited by German soldiers during the occupation.
