Return to overview

Since Friday 4 November, the video work ‘Still Zombie’ by Amsterdam-based Guadeloupean artist Clémence Lollia Hilaire has been on display at Club 3 / Patronaat Haarlem. This as part of a collaboration we have started with Club 3 that brings together video art and clubbing in Haarlem, curated by Kunstfort.

Still Zombie is a hypnotic work with references to indigenous perspectives, eco-feminism and zombie culture. One scene follows a family on a journey through their tropical backyard in Guadeloupe, located in the southern Caribbean, during which one of them disappears. After falling through a hole, she reappears in a rugged, rocky landscape somewhere in western Europe. She has turned into a zombie – not a djumbi*, zumbi**, or nzambi***, but a zombie – a fictional character from a popular film trope, often reflecting ‘anti-Blackness’ and fears of the ‘wild’ other.

The work will be on display until the 27th of October.
