On 26 November the Kunstfort will welcome its new resident, artist Seba Calfuqueo, for a week of inspiration.
Of Mapuche origin, their work takes multiple forms of cultural heritage as a starting point for critical reflection on the social, cultural, and political status of the Mapuche subject within contemporary Chilean society. Working across media of installation, ceramics, performance and video, Seba’s aim is to explore the cultural similarities, differences and stereotypes, that arise at the crossroads of indigenous and Western ways of thinking, as well as making the issues regarding feminism and queer theory visible.
The residency was developed in close collaboration with Valley of the Possible, our partner in Chile, and is comprised of two parts. This first part consists of an inspiration week in which Seba will get to know the Kunstfort and our direct surroundings from up close. Next to this, they will visit and meet with specific artists and institutions in preparation for their artistic research that will take them to the Kunstfort for an extended period in 2023.
