Despite the drastic lockdowns and restrictions, the Kunstfort nevertheless assembled a rich and relevant program in 2021. Encompassing the topical group exhibitions World of Earth and Politics at Play, Play at Politics, the immersive solo shows by Kata Novitskova (Microbial Oasis) and Miloš Trakilović (All But War is Simulation), and the powerful performances and exhibition comprising MPA – Fire for Water. Isabel Marcos concluded her year-long Kunstfort Kasus residency in 2021 with a beautiful installation, and Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia presented his sculptural explorations after spending 18 months at the Kunstfort, in collaboration with De Ateliers and Sundaymorning@ekwc. In addition, public programs were held with Danielle van Ark, Gijsje Heemskerk with Kim David Bots and Lyckle de Jong, Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia, Dominic van den Boogerd and Ranti Tjan, various interventions occurred at the fort, and Kunstfort Voices appeared in digital mailboxes everywhere, with artists’ contributions by Akinbode Akinbiyi, Fiep van Bodegom, Arif Kornweitz, Becket MWN and Alison Yip, Sarah Naqvi, Paulien Oltheten, Selma Selman, Julius Thissen, Kemang Wa Lehulere, Omer Wasim, and others.
With a new relaxation of restrictions on the horizon, the Kunstfort is preparing a diverse roster of activities for the new season that involves public programs, exhibitions, and much more.
