When life hits you with its biggest doomsday scenario, where better to start than with science fiction?
Arine Aprahamian – DesignLAB teacher
At September 15th, the kick-off of ‘Kunstfort. Science fiction, narrative & future defense strategies’ takes place. A collaboration between Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen and the DesignLAB department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
The course is an invitation to the students to re-embody the initial role of the former fort bij Vijfhuizen, now Kunstfort, in the light of current and potentially developing threats. They are asked to embrace science fiction as an instrument for speculative futuristic narratives.
Under the guidance of their teacher Arine Aprahamian, the students will, after having deconstructed pre-existing notions of what science fiction is, develop an interpretation of the future in language and image or object. Through storytelling techniques and research, they will subsequently get to scenarios that may span the spectrum of the plausible, the possible and even the extraordinary.
Stay tuned about the developments of the collaboration by means of the project page on the website of the Kunstfort.
