On Sunday 7 December, we came together for the finissage of Shame of the shuffled cards. The afternoon offered a shared moment of reflection and exchange, in which artists and visitors looked back on this layered exhibition and its continued relevance.

In her closing speech, Kunstfort director Rabiaâ Benlahbib briefly reflected on the political and social context in which the exhibition took place: with one political leader after another being suspected of or prosecuted for corruption, and with the choices we make—for example in the West—often overlooking their consequences for other parts of the world.

Visitors took part in a rust walk with Dagmar Bosma @tuff_n_tender, moving attentively around and through the fort, with an eye for processes of decay, care and transformation. Dagmar collaborated with photographer Gilles Boeuf @gillesboeuf, who created a striking photo series at the fort, inspired by their work. Inside, Anton Shebetko @shebetko gave a lecture on Ukrainian queer art, sharing underrepresented histories alongside contemporary perspectives.

At the mist-filled installation by ChihChung Chang @chang_chihchung, visitors paused to reflect on the choices humanity continues to make in favour of comfort. At the same time, Bebe Blanco Agterberg @bebeblancoagterberg invited visitors to take dike-reinforcing seeds combined with soil from the installation by the Mügge brothers—small, future-oriented gestures to plant or disperse later.

We closed the afternoon dancing, with an intimate silent survival disco in the middle of the installation by Christoph Mügge & Sebastian Mügge @christoph.muegge, where personal survival songs took centre stage. We thank all artists, collaborators and visitors who helped shape Shame of the shuffled cards into a space for attention, vulnerability and resilience.
