Intervention

Return to overview

Vincent Knopper is the first participant in Kunstfort Kase (Kunstfort Case), a residency program that gives an artist or designer the opportunity to expand their studio work to (the surrounding area of) the Kunstfort during one year. Knopper studied Fine Arts at the Rietveld Academy and followed the Master program Material Utopias at the Sandberg Institution. In 2019 he continues his research into the history and architecture of the fortress, as well as the programmatic and physical transformation of the historical site into a presentation space. In collaboration with the team and the relations of the Kunstfort, Knopper will design three objects that will be shown during the exhibition seasons. In Autumn he will make a inal presentation in which he shares his indings, in combination with an article and a public program.

Vincent Knopper investigates and reproduces existing Kunstfort architecture and translates this into spatial imaginations. In the second part of Kunstfort Kasus, this summer, Knopper shows his site-speciic sketches in the outdoor space. With these interventions, he responds to elements that have been designed and placed during the re-use of the Kunstfort as an art institution, such as the steel fencing and gravel path, which became part of the identity of the fort. Knopper sees a similar efect around the merchandise of the Kunstfort; the pens and lighters are gradually becoming part of the overall Kunstfort identity.
