When does a vacuum free and when does it constrain? How do we fill a vacuum? Do we fill it alone or together? And with what stories, embraces, words, objects and values?
“In the vacuum, we felt air” is a group exhibition and public programme exploring vacuums, echo chambers, and cocoons, as well as shelter, sanctuaries and safe spaces. It hones in on collectively formed thoughts and spaces, away from what might be the social norm – and on the possibility for connection within such a ‘bubble’. The exhibition includes digital and sculptural works, which, in their own unique way, give rise to physical togetherness and address questions of community-building, belonging, and forming resistance.
We look forward to sharing works by Jonathas de Andrade (Brazil), Eglė Budvytytė (Lithuania), Sabine Groenewegen (The Netherlands), Cristina Lavosi (Italy), and the collective Total Refusal (Austria), among others. Over the coming months, a diverse exhibition programme will unfold with video art, sculptures, artistic research, performances, and workshops.
